Automated Friction Feeder

This feeder is built for high-speed continuous material feeding and pairs perfectly with single pass printing systems. It separates stacked substrates one sheet at a time with precise friction control to deliver consistent single sheet feeding, and the feed speed can be adjusted freely.
It eliminates manual loading work to cut labor costs and boost overall production efficiency.

Description

Every digital printing line has the same hidden bottleneck: getting one product exactly one into the machine, thousands of times per hour, without doubles, skews, or jams. The automated friction feeder from RobotJet Global solves precisely that. Using counter-rotating friction separation, it takes a stack of flat products and delivers them individually, consistently spaced, at speeds that keep single-pass printers running at their rated output instead of waiting on human hands.

Because RobotJet builds both the feeders and the printers, this isn’t an accessory bolted on from a catalog it’s the material handling half of a matched system, also available standalone for integrators and production lines of every kind.

Why Feeding Decides Your Real Output

A single-pass printer rated at thousands of pieces per hour prints at exactly the speed products arrive. Hand-feeding caps that speed at human rhythm with fatigue, gaps, and misfeeds compounding across a shift. The math is unforgiving:

Doubles ruin product. Two bags fed as one means one printed and one blank both often scrapped. Friction separation holds back everything except the single bottom piece, shift after shift.

Gaps waste machine time. Every empty conveyor slot is purchased machine capacity thrown away. Consistent automated spacing keeps the print zone full at rated speed.

Skew ruins registration. A product entering crooked prints crooked. Guided friction feeding delivers each piece square to the line the upstream half of the registration accuracy your printer promises.

Labor moves up the value chain. The operator who spent the shift dropping bags one by one now supervises the line, checks quality, and loads stacks one person running what took two or three.

How Friction Separation Works

A stack of product loads into the hopper. Feed belts drive the bottom piece forward while a counter-rotating separator — set to a gap just thicker than one piece holds back everything above it. The result is a continuous stream of individual products, consistently spaced, delivered at whatever speed the downstream machine demands.

Adjustment is deliberately simple: tool-free guides set product width, the separator gap dials to thickness, and digital speed control synchronizes with the line. Changeover between products bags to cards to cartons takes minutes, not a technician visit.

What It Feeds

Paper bags and pouches, greeting cards and postcards, envelopes and mailers, flat and folded cartons, box blanks before forming, booklet covers and inserts, cup sleeves and blanks, blister and display cards, lids and flat packaging components, labels in sheet form, and rigid flat products across the packaging, printing, and mailing industries.

If your product is flat and stacks, it almost certainly feeds and for the exceptions, custom hopper and belt configurations exist. Send us a sample; we’ll film it feeding.

Built by the Printer Maker Why That Matters

Most feeders on the market are generic material handlers asked to cooperate with printers they’ve never met. RobotJet’s feeder was engineered alongside our single-pass printing platforms — the [water based ink digital printer] line, the [package container printer], and the wider machine family which shows in the details:

Speed synchronization is native. Feeder and printer speak the same control language, holding spacing steady as line speed changes — no drift, no manual re-tuning between jobs.

Registration thinking upstream. The feeder delivers products square and consistent because our own printers downstream depend on exactly that.

One support call. When the feeder and printer come from one manufacturer, there is no finger-pointing between vendors RobotJet engineers own the whole line’s performance, for life.

And for production lines running other equipment: the feeder integrates with third-party printers, coders, folder-gluers, and packaging machinery just as readily many customers buy it standalone as the reliability upgrade their existing line was missing.

Where It Earns Its Keep

Digital printing lines feeding bags, cartons, and cards into single-pass printers at rated speed. Packaging plants automating carton and blank handling ahead of converting equipment. Mailing and fulfillment houses feeding envelopes and inserts at volumes hands can’t sustain. Food packaging producers keeping cup sleeve and box lines moving through shifts. Integrators and line builders specifying a proven feeding module backed by a manufacturer’s lifetime support.

The payback logic is straightforward: if automated feeding releases even one operator per shift while lifting line output toward rated speed, the feeder typically recovers its cost within months.

The RobotJet Standard Behind It

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an automated friction feeder used for? It automatically separates and feeds flat products paper bags, cards, envelopes, cartons, box blanks one at a time into printing and production lines at high speed, replacing hand-feeding and keeping machines running at rated output.

Will it feed my specific product? If it’s flat and stackable, almost certainly and custom hopper and belt configurations cover unusual sizes and materials. Send a product sample; we’ll feed it on camera and send you the video before you decide.

How does it prevent double feeds? Counter-rotating friction separation holds back every piece except the bottom one, with the separator gap dialed to your product thickness single-piece output is the mechanism, not an adjustment hope.

Does it only work with RobotJet printers? No while it synchronizes natively with our printing platforms, it integrates with any third-party printer, coder, or packaging machine via speed control. Many customers run it standalone on existing lines.

How long does product changeover take? Minutes tool-free width guides, a thickness dial for the separator, and digital speed control are the entire adjustment. Operators handle changeovers after basic training.

What’s included with purchase? The feeder with your specified hopper configuration, remote installation guidance, operator training, a 2-year warranty, stocked spare belts and parts, and free lifetime technical support from our Beijing engineering team.
